SUMMARY:The role of IMF youth in combating poverty
DESCRIPTION:The International Labour Organization has said that although the world’s nations “will emerge” from the pandemic\, “five years of progress towards the eradication of poverty has been undone”. The COVID crisis is likely to push global unemployment over the 200 million mark in 2022. Women and youth have been the most affected. This workshop will help participants gain a more comprehensive understanding of global poverty\, the policy responses required for poverty reduction and implementation challenges. It will help participants design better policy solutions required to combat poverty and also gain the necessary soft skills required for the successful implementation of their policy solutions. This workshop will also address the importance of structural transformation required for poverty reduction\, financial inclusion\, cash transfers\, employment guarantee\, community-driven development and civic engagement programmes.

SUMMARY:Ending Global Poverty programs and projects
DESCRIPTION:Many parts of our world are facing unprecedented economic crises characterized by systemic and widening income gaps and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Debt accumulation seems to be the only trend in global economics\, and in that state\, poor nations are bound to bear the brunt of these ill effects. To achieve SDG 1 “No Poverty”\, there must be a fundamental mindset shift in how we approach both the challenges and solutions.\nTaking Haiti as a case study\, H.E. Mr. Guillaume will share his reflections on how such a mindset shift could contribute to SEEDs (Sustainable and Equitable Economic Development) framework that would in turn have greater impacts on SDG 1 goals.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: The Politics of Pollution: Looking At Our Planet Through A Different Lens
DESCRIPTION:Who stands to gain from the destruction of a building? The people who swung the wrecking ball into the concrete wall – the same people who will clear the area to expand their factory into it. This is exactly what is happening to our planet. The key instigators of climate change are deforestation\, plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. But who instigates those? More importantly\, how – and why – do they get away with it?\nThis workshop will explore the power dynamics in the global response to climate change\, and why some politicians are so vocal about their disbelief towards its impending threat. The economic benefits of plastic pollution and environmentally unfriendly industries will also be explained\, as well as why so many establishments get away with fueling climate change\, and why we can’t simply stop supporting them. By the end of this workshop\, you will have a better understanding of the intricacies of the global responses to climate change and pollution. You will also be able to analyze different notable events pertaining to the politics of global warming. Arguably the most beneficial skill you can learn from this workshop is a clearer idea of how to make a significant positive impact on your planet\, and help save it\, despite the control large establishments hold over environmental improvement.

SUMMARY:The Curious Case of Copycat Entrepreneurs: How to be Motivated in the World of Competition?
DESCRIPTION:Many entrepreneurs face competition when they succeed with their business plans especially when others copy their successful formula for their financial gains. Those entrepreneurs who copy other entrepreneurs are called “Copycat Entrepreneurs”. However\, some of these successful entrepreneurs become demotivated and disappointed after the increasing competition within the market. This cycle creates an ecosystem called Red Ocean Strategy\, where there are several competing businesses offering the same products and services.\nWhile the chance of copycat entrepreneurs to sustain their businesses diminishes over time\, they eventually could end up eating a big chunk of your market revenues. In fact\, it is a good chance for entrepreneurs to come up with new or modified products\, services\, and re-shifting their strategy to focus on keeping their loyal customers\, as well as having new customers. \nAt this workshop we will dig deeper into the definitions and meaning of being an entrepreneur and understanding the factors that keeps the business surviving on the long run. We will go through some examples and stories of businesses on both the red and blue oceans strategies\, we will also learn about the customer and user experiences\, as well as how others copied businesses has failed\, while others had to innovate and survived. \nAfter listening to several examples\, we will go into the Lean Method of entrepreneurship\, where participants will learn how to make their business more efficient and effective by cutting cost\, time\, and waste. Each group will have a 3D modular cutout of retails or factories with fictional scenarios\, and they must adopt lean methods to make the production smoother or to generate more sales. (Alt: images will be used for the activity in the case of an online session) \nTowards the end we will get the feedback from the participants on how they modified their business models\, and how they can implement the lesson learned towards their future entrepreneurial projects.

SUMMARY:Student Voice and Youth Participation in Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:What is “YOUTH VOICE”? How have youth engaged with decision making around the world?. Building out Article 12 of the UN CRC\, Dr. Dana Mitra will look at how young people share “student voice”\, and will share a framework for thinking about the ways that young people can engage in decision making processes; through giving opinions\, collaborating with adults\, and creating their own initiatives for change. We will also explore conditions that help such work to succeed and problems that may hold it back. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on student voice in their own organisations\, and develop an understanding of how to develop student voice in their own communities!
