SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: What do the NERDS do differently
DESCRIPTION:There’s a popular notion that “the Nerds” ace exams with flying color’s because they don’t have a life beyond academics. there’s another notion that there are some who can learn and some who can’t which is an irreversible policy of life. However\, these are all notions that can be broken as easily as they were made. In this session\, you will learn about evidence based strategies and tactics that will help you tackle the challenge of learning\, not using a google recommended strategy like eating 20 carrots will make your brains vision clear. You’ll enter as a novice and exit with enough knowledge to become an expert at learning\, or close to it.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: Changing Your Life To The Better Course!
DESCRIPTION:With the lockdown due to Covid-19\, I feel like everyone has got themselves stuck into what I like to call The Rut Phase. A Rut Phase is a phase where you procrastinate on every task that comes your way. You don’t feel motivated to do anything\, not even get out of bed first thing in the morning. And not only does The Rut Phase mess with your productivity and motivation\, but it also messes with your financial judgment which eventually will turn you bankrupt living in the streets.\nIn this course\, we will discuss 6 main points:\n– Mindset is key; Where we will talk about how changing your mindset can change your decisions that will eventually change your whole life.\n– Time management; Where we will discuss how organizing your time can open up new potentials and goals in your life you didn’t know you had the time for.\n– Task management; Where we will discuss organizing your tasks in order depending on priority and due dates.\n– Study smarter not harder; where we’ll discuss the importance of this theory and how it’s done efficiently.\n– The true definition of winning; Where we will talk about when to know if you are winning or losing\, and how to change the losing part.\n– Being smart with money; where we will discuss the importance of investing your money and how to avoid spending them on useless stuff! \nIn every section\, we will have small discussions about public opinions and I’ll convince each and every one of you that there is always room for improvement besides how to effectively improve on it.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: The Age of Information or Misinformation?
DESCRIPTION:The Age of Information or Misinformation?\nWhen information is at our fingertips are people today actually more informed than their predecessors or are they actually more misguided than ever before? Our age has been described as the age of information\, nevertheless\, the mass of information we have access to has led to confusion\, mistrust\, and propaganda masquerading as truth. This has led to an increasingly divided society where chasms exist between groups depending on which source of information they choose to believe and which group they identify with\, and therefore are inclined to trust. This has been exemplified historically through the conflicting opinions regarding the best solution for the Middle East crisis and more recently in the division between the people who trust the Covid-19 vaccine and those who view it as a risk to their health. In this workshop\, we will discuss how information spreads especially in the age of social media\, and what makes people believe the information they receive and view while mistrusting other sources. Finally we will discuss the best methods of evaluating what we believe and how to better contribute to the spread of reliable and trustworthy information.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: Fake News\, Lies\, and Propaganda: Identifying Fallacies and Disinformation in a chaotic world
DESCRIPTION:False news and lies have always been part of media history. And today\, it is more prominent than ever. From satirical stories to false contextualization and from manipulated headlines to fabricated content\, fake news is everywhere. Lies travel with frightening speed on the internet\, random claims spark angry backlashes\, and disinformation is commonplace. In such a chaotic world\, it is important to have media literacy – identifying fake news and fallacies in journalism becomes an essential skill to survive. This workshop will throw light on the outreach of mass media\, the role it plays in shaping public opinion\, the impacts fake news can have\, the psychological and practical reasons it spreads quickly\, what we can do to combat its spread\, and more. There will be several audience engagement activities\, including a word cloud activity\, some GK-based questions\, reflection and opinion-based discussion\, analysis of fake news articles\, audience polls\, etc. This session will hopefully make the audience more aware and careful in the current information environment.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: How procrastination can lead you to success?
DESCRIPTION:The workshop exists solely to debunk the myth that “procrastination is for losers” and replace it with “procrastination is for the successful”. I want the attendees to walk away feeling like they can turn their procrastination into success. The attendees thoughts should be provoked by the end of the workshop so they can shape the concepts I will share to their own lives.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: Feminism after reading 3 articles on feminism
DESCRIPTION:The presentation will start off with attendees introducing themselves and stating their opinions on feminism\, followed by a brief introductory speech on the origins\, importance\, and historical results of feminism. A discussion will then follow between the attendees and myself\, in which participants will be able to voice their opinions about issues such as patriarchal oppression\, misogyny & misandry\, the normalization of sexual harassment in the Middle East\, and laws and legislation protective of women’s rights. Following the discussion\, I will be presenting the works of Egyptian feminist writer and activist\, Nawal El-Saadawi\, sharing some of her most notable work fighting gender oppression in the Middle East. I will use her work to highlight the differences between Western and Eastern feminism\, and a poll will be taken within the committee to find out which ideals are more popularly supported: Liberal or Conservative.\nFor the last discussion point of the workshop\, I will be sharing stories of victims of gender related hate crimes and the governmental actions taken against them. During the last portion of the presentation a google form will be shared with the committee to give attendees the chance to make comments\, observations\, voice their opinions and ask questions in regards to feminism\, which will be shared on my screen to open a last discussion between the participants. The various discussion times throughout the presentation are aimed at presenting the participants with new information between each discussion to help them form more informed and articulate opinions\, and encourage more fruitful debates which will help enlighten us to new perspectives and encourage us to open our minds and selves to social progression.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: Healthcare: Politics or a Service:
DESCRIPTION:Covid 19. A pandemic that has affected us all and revealed the true colours of the Healthcare industry. From Donald Trump’s constant denial of the virus and his Warp Speed Operation to deliver the vaccines\, to the blatant claims that China was responsible. This workshop brings to light many present-day issues such as the unequal distribution of vaccines and the mistreatment of healthcare workers who risk their lives every day. For example\, The US and the UK were some of the first to get the vaccines partly due to their leaders in government\, however\, LEDs and MEDs such as India struggled to cope with their surge of cases and lack of vaccines. Another common occurrence is the monopoly at play in the insurance industry as for example in 2020 alone\, the average cost for health insurance was $456 for a person in the US. So is this just the new normal or a dismal failure by the leaders of these countries? And does our health and wellbeing now solely depend on the type of political leaders in office? The participants will also have the chance to look at and learn from the different leadership styles of global leaders such as Donald Trump and Joe Biden and their different approaches towards handling the Covid situation in the US. To end our workshop\, we intend on having our participants come up with alternative and constructive methods in which they would combat the issues at hand.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: Don't Speak\, Communicate
DESCRIPTION:As the name suggests\, this workshop stresses the importance of communication\, not just speaking. While speaking simply involves delivering a speech or a lecture in front of an audience\, communication focuses on making that speech heard\, making your message understood\, be it in front of one person or hundreds. If you often avoid asking doubts in classes\, are afraid to present your views in group projects\, often get ignored in your friend circle or feel shy speaking in front of groups of people\, this workshop is for you.As a teenager\, I hope to share my journey with communication skills building and give tangible advice as to how to get the confidence to speak in front of an audience\, make your speeches meaningful and learn to convert your thoughts into words in an effective manner. I’ll also show examples of the do’s and don’t’s of communication and hold interactive exercises to better understand the concepts. Overall\, you’ll definitely return as a better communicator after the workshop.

SUMMARY:The role of IMF youth in combating poverty
DESCRIPTION:The International Labour Organization has said that although the world’s nations “will emerge” from the pandemic\, “five years of progress towards the eradication of poverty has been undone”. The COVID crisis is likely to push global unemployment over the 200 million mark in 2022. Women and youth have been the most affected. This workshop will help participants gain a more comprehensive understanding of global poverty\, the policy responses required for poverty reduction and implementation challenges. It will help participants design better policy solutions required to combat poverty and also gain the necessary soft skills required for the successful implementation of their policy solutions. This workshop will also address the importance of structural transformation required for poverty reduction\, financial inclusion\, cash transfers\, employment guarantee\, community-driven development and civic engagement programmes.

SUMMARY:Ending Global Poverty programs and projects
DESCRIPTION:Many parts of our world are facing unprecedented economic crises characterized by systemic and widening income gaps and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Debt accumulation seems to be the only trend in global economics\, and in that state\, poor nations are bound to bear the brunt of these ill effects. To achieve SDG 1 “No Poverty”\, there must be a fundamental mindset shift in how we approach both the challenges and solutions.\nTaking Haiti as a case study\, H.E. Mr. Guillaume will share his reflections on how such a mindset shift could contribute to SEEDs (Sustainable and Equitable Economic Development) framework that would in turn have greater impacts on SDG 1 goals.

SUMMARY:YOUTH LED: The Politics of Pollution: Looking At Our Planet Through A Different Lens
DESCRIPTION:Who stands to gain from the destruction of a building? The people who swung the wrecking ball into the concrete wall – the same people who will clear the area to expand their factory into it. This is exactly what is happening to our planet. The key instigators of climate change are deforestation\, plastic pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. But who instigates those? More importantly\, how – and why – do they get away with it?\nThis workshop will explore the power dynamics in the global response to climate change\, and why some politicians are so vocal about their disbelief towards its impending threat. The economic benefits of plastic pollution and environmentally unfriendly industries will also be explained\, as well as why so many establishments get away with fueling climate change\, and why we can’t simply stop supporting them. By the end of this workshop\, you will have a better understanding of the intricacies of the global responses to climate change and pollution. You will also be able to analyze different notable events pertaining to the politics of global warming. Arguably the most beneficial skill you can learn from this workshop is a clearer idea of how to make a significant positive impact on your planet\, and help save it\, despite the control large establishments hold over environmental improvement.

SUMMARY:The Curious Case of Copycat Entrepreneurs: How to be Motivated in the World of Competition?
DESCRIPTION:Many entrepreneurs face competition when they succeed with their business plans especially when others copy their successful formula for their financial gains. Those entrepreneurs who copy other entrepreneurs are called “Copycat Entrepreneurs”. However\, some of these successful entrepreneurs become demotivated and disappointed after the increasing competition within the market. This cycle creates an ecosystem called Red Ocean Strategy\, where there are several competing businesses offering the same products and services.\nWhile the chance of copycat entrepreneurs to sustain their businesses diminishes over time\, they eventually could end up eating a big chunk of your market revenues. In fact\, it is a good chance for entrepreneurs to come up with new or modified products\, services\, and re-shifting their strategy to focus on keeping their loyal customers\, as well as having new customers. \nAt this workshop we will dig deeper into the definitions and meaning of being an entrepreneur and understanding the factors that keeps the business surviving on the long run. We will go through some examples and stories of businesses on both the red and blue oceans strategies\, we will also learn about the customer and user experiences\, as well as how others copied businesses has failed\, while others had to innovate and survived. \nAfter listening to several examples\, we will go into the Lean Method of entrepreneurship\, where participants will learn how to make their business more efficient and effective by cutting cost\, time\, and waste. Each group will have a 3D modular cutout of retails or factories with fictional scenarios\, and they must adopt lean methods to make the production smoother or to generate more sales. (Alt: images will be used for the activity in the case of an online session) \nTowards the end we will get the feedback from the participants on how they modified their business models\, and how they can implement the lesson learned towards their future entrepreneurial projects.

SUMMARY:Student Voice and Youth Participation in Decision Making
DESCRIPTION:What is “YOUTH VOICE”? How have youth engaged with decision making around the world?. Building out Article 12 of the UN CRC\, Dr. Dana Mitra will look at how young people share “student voice”\, and will share a framework for thinking about the ways that young people can engage in decision making processes; through giving opinions\, collaborating with adults\, and creating their own initiatives for change. We will also explore conditions that help such work to succeed and problems that may hold it back. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on student voice in their own organisations\, and develop an understanding of how to develop student voice in their own communities!
