YOUTH LED: Healthcare: Politics or a Service:

Covid 19. A pandemic that has affected us all and revealed the true colours of the Healthcare industry. From Donald Trump’s constant denial of the virus and his Warp Speed Operation to deliver the vaccines, to the blatant claims that China was responsible. This workshop brings to light many present-day issues such as the unequal distribution of vaccines and the mistreatment of healthcare workers who risk their lives every day. For example, The US and the UK were some of the first to get the vaccines partly due to their leaders in government, however, LEDs and MEDs such as India struggled to cope with their surge of cases and lack of vaccines. Another common occurrence is the monopoly at play in the insurance industry as for example in 2020 alone, the average cost for health insurance was $456 for a person in the US. So is this just the new normal or a dismal failure by the leaders of these countries? And does our health and wellbeing now solely depend on the type of political leaders in office? The participants will also have the chance to look at and learn from the different leadership styles of global leaders such as Donald Trump and Joe Biden and their different approaches towards handling the Covid situation in the US. To end our workshop, we intend on having our participants come up with alternative and constructive methods in which they would combat the issues at hand.
