YOUTH LED: Feminism after reading 3 articles on feminism

November 5, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The presentation will start off with attendees introducing themselves and stating their opinions on feminism, followed by a brief introductory speech on the origins, importance, and historical results of feminism. A discussion will then follow between the attendees and myself, in which participants will be able to voice their opinions about issues such as patriarchal oppression, misogyny & misandry, the normalization of sexual harassment in the Middle East, and laws and legislation protective of women’s rights. Following the discussion, I will be presenting the works of Egyptian feminist writer and activist, Nawal El-Saadawi, sharing some of her most notable work fighting gender oppression in the Middle East. I will use her work to highlight the differences between Western and Eastern feminism, and a poll will be taken within the committee to find out which ideals are more popularly supported: Liberal or Conservative.
For the last discussion point of the workshop, I will be sharing stories of victims of gender related hate crimes and the governmental actions taken against them. During the last portion of the presentation a google form will be shared with the committee to give attendees the chance to make comments, observations, voice their opinions and ask questions in regards to feminism, which will be shared on my screen to open a last discussion between the participants. The various discussion times throughout the presentation are aimed at presenting the participants with new information between each discussion to help them form more informed and articulate opinions, and encourage more fruitful debates which will help enlighten us to new perspectives and encourage us to open our minds and selves to social progression.
