In this workshop, you will learn all about implicit bias, a common but often discussed issue. Implicit bias, also known as subconscious bias, affects the way we think, speak, and behave all without us realizing. It is a hidden danger that influences the workforce, education, healthcare, and all aspects of life. First, you will learn the nuances of implicit bias, how it forms and how upbringing, experiences and how people are portrayed – in real life and online – leads to the development of harmful biases. Then, we will discuss the impacts of implicit bias, including examples and important events from the real world. The final part of the workshop will focus on stereotype threat and minimizing our own personal implicit biases.
